Teaching Hub for Local Schools Secures £1 million Government Funding Commitment

Generate Teaching Hub – part of Warrington Primary Academy Trust – has secured a government funding commitment of more than £1 million to continue its work for the next four years.

The organisation, which has run training and support for teachers and leaders in all 292 schools across Warrington, Halton and Wigan since 2021, has been awarded a £260,000 a year contract by the Department for Education to extend its work until 2028.

Generate was formed in 2021 and, along with 86 other teaching school hubs across England, has been operating as a local centre of excellence for teacher professional development.

Generate has made a big impact since its formation in 2021. Highlights include:

  • 600 early career teachers – newly qualified teachers starting out in the classroom – enrolled on their two-year training and coaching entitlement
  • 500 mentors provided with training and guidance so that they can support early career teachers
  • 900 teachers and leaders trained in range of specialist National Professional Qualification programmes that improve their classroom and leadership skills

The hub also runs school-based teacher training, is part of a teacher training network and has supported the creation of a behaviour hub and an early years stronger practice hub.

Bernard Clarke, Director of Generate Teaching Hub, said: “We are delighted that we have been awarded the continuation of the contract by the Department for Education for another four years. It’s an endorsement of the great work we have done since we were set up three years ago.

“Generate has played a vital role in building a coherent community of practice across the area since 2021 – a role that is making a huge difference to the quality of teaching and leadership in all of our schools.

“That work means that teachers and leaders are better supported and better trained – and that leads directly to better schools for every child across Warrington, Halton and Wigan.”
