Kingsway Primary Academy praised for recent transformation

Ofsted declared Kingsway Primary Academy 'GOOD' in all areas since it joined WPAT three years ago.

This comes after a recent inspection, which led to extremely positive feedback on the improvements it has shown.

The inspection report noted that "since joining the MAT, the quality of education that pupils receive has been transformed. The school has successfully designed a curriculum that is ambitious and well adapted to capitalise on pupil's interests.

"“From the nursery year through to year six, the school has identified the essential knowledge that pupils should learn and the order in which this knowledge should be taught.” 

At its last Ofsted inspection, in 2018, the school, then known as Simms Cross Primary, was rated 'inadequate'.

Since it became part of WPAT in November 2020 the school has received additional support to improve the quality of teaching, along with a substantial injection of funds to refurbish school buildings.  

"Staff successfully deliver the curriculum using appropriate activities that support pupils to build their knowledge logically," an inspector said. 

"Staff routinely check that pupils have secured earlier learning before moving on to new concepts."

Kingsway Primary Academy was rated as good in all five specific areas inspected: quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, leadership and management and early years provision.   

The inspectors added that the school had raised its expectations of what pupils can and should achieve since joining the trust.  

"Pupils, including those with SEND and those who are disadvantaged, easily rise to these expectations," they stated. 

Executive head teacher Paula Warding said: "This Ofsted report is testament to the hard work, dedication and commitment of our entire school community."

"Our progress is a clear indication that our efforts to foster a positive learning environment are paying off and while we celebrate our progress, we remain committed to continuous improvement and will continue to work on the areas identified within the report."
