Headteacher Update Podcast: Sarah Morris talks about Instructional Coaching
This episode looks at using instructional coaching as part of a school’s approach to staff CPD and improving teaching and learning, with lots of tips, advice and examples.
The discussion considers the discrete stages of instructional coaching and also includes case studies and examples from the guests of where instructional coaching approaches have worked well.
The podcast touches upon the use of deliberate practice as part of teacher development, and discusses when instructional coaching should not be used in the school context. Finally, it highlights where instructional coaching should be separate to line management, quality assurance and performance management.
The episode is hosted as ever by Helen Frostick, a National Leader of Education and a retired primary school headteacher. Alongside Helen and Sarah, the other guests are:
- Sharon Ealing - a professional development lead at the Teacher Development Trust, a national charity for effective CPD in schools and colleges.
- Kay Shepherd - Director of Leicestershire and Rutland Teaching School Hub, which works with around 300 schools on a number of programmes that involved instructional coaching. Kay is also an accredited professional coach.
