New chapter and new name for Frodsham primary school
4th May 2022
An exciting new chapter in the history of a Frodsham primary school was opened this week.
Frodsham Weaver Vale Primary School officially converted to academy status on Sunday (1 May) and joined Warrington Primary Academy Trust, making it the eighth school to be welcomed into the trust.
The school has also got a new name: Frodsham Primary Academy. The name change was agreed following a consultation with children, parents, staff, governors and the wider community.
Acting Headteacher Gemma Callaghan, WPAT CEO Louise Smith and Executive Headteacher Paula Warding.
As part of the WPAT family, staff at Frodsham Primary Academy will receive additional training and support from WPAT colleagues in a range of areas including the quality of teaching. Teachers will also be helped to adopt new, efficient ways of evaluating the children’s learning.
As well as the support of WPAT and the name change Frodsham Primary Academy has also benefited from a £40,000 investment in school improvements, secured from Department for Education funds. The work, which started during the Easter break, involves the creation of new sensory area for pupils with special needs, re-siting of classrooms, a new breakout room, landscaping, redecoration and new carpets.
Newly appointed chair of governors Juliet Brown said: “This is an extremely exciting time for all members of the Frodsham Primary Academy school community. Warrington Primary Academy Trust, in such a short space of time, has already supported staff in improving the quality of educational provision being offered by the school. As chair of governors, I am in no doubt that the school will continue to flourish further over the coming months and years.”
Executive Headteacher Paula Warding said: “WPAT is passionate about putting the interests of the children first and will help the team at Frodsham Primary Academy to maximise their teaching expertise, enhance children’s learning and use resources more efficiently and effectively.”
Louise Smith, CEO of Warrington Primary Academy Trust, said: “We are very pleased to welcome the staff and children of Frodsham Primary Academy into the WPAT family of schools. The school will strengthen WPAT and we are looking forward to supporting the school to fulfil its potential.”
WPAT is a community of more than 2,300 children aged 2 to 11 and now consists of eight primary schools, a Department for Education behaviour hub and a teaching hub, and employs over 300 staff. The trust was formed in 2016 and quickly developed a national reputation for excellent standards. WPAT provides staff at all of its schools with support, expertise and professional development so that they can provide the very best education standards for their children.
